Doubting my creativity because the ideas I have are...well...simple. I was unsure whether to post new videos when I felt this way. Yet, creativity isn't about complexity, never really has been for me or for my YouTube channels so WHY am I hesitating? Because negative thoughts can overpower us. They can make you feel "less than" if you are "too simple". At least that is how my thought process has been like for awhile when it came to filming. </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span><span><span> But, I am starting to let negative thoughts not control me, or my creativity. I know I am not alone in feeling this way. I'm sure some of you reading this right now are dealing with it too. I put pressure on myself in areas where I don't need to. "Simple" isn't a bad word. I called my YouTube channel "Simply Intertwined" because I WANTED to keep things simple. I don't do very complex items because that, frankly, isn't me. I'm a simple person. A simple creator. And creativity isn't defined by how complex it is to make/do. </span><br /></span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span> I like sharing how to use the same stitches to make different items because, for some, they can only handle doing simple projects, simple stitches and there is nothing wrong with that. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span><br /></span></div><p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305457318291946287.post-36088331203475121102019-05-21T12:12:00.001-04:002019-05-21T12:12:23.456-04:00Memorial Day or 4th Of July Wreath<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifu9yxREB9NHnMRrgCjUzzQ-PIYDXQ87t3RFaDEuA47ToEhx8x4IGyWnrBCT1rpmqdl3K26gduZkrwHH3ki6tgsCXc-AlPVK_GIvzb3VaZ4Y4hYXFo8Xv77i0ZZc0HfC_hreWeS2oahOs/s1600/American+Wreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1316" data-original-width="1440" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifu9yxREB9NHnMRrgCjUzzQ-PIYDXQ87t3RFaDEuA47ToEhx8x4IGyWnrBCT1rpmqdl3K26gduZkrwHH3ki6tgsCXc-AlPVK_GIvzb3VaZ4Y4hYXFo8Xv77i0ZZc0HfC_hreWeS2oahOs/s320/American+Wreath.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Using my <a href="https://youtu.be/wBmSbgXNMJ4" target="_blank">Simple Holiday Wreath video</a> as a guideline you can create a Memorial/4th Of July wreath by using the following:<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>1 Metal Wreath Ring measuring 14 inch in diameter. I purchased mine at Dollar Tree. </li>
<li>2 American Flags. The ones I used measured 10 inches from top to bottom and were purchased at Walmart. They came in a 4 pack for around $2. </li>
<li>4 Christmas ornament hooks or you can use thin wire if you have that on hand. </li>
<li>The following yarn was used:</li>
<ul>
<li>Red Heart Super Saver Yarn called Americana. This is a multicolored (red, white and blue) yarn and the each skein was 5 oz (236 yards). I used 1 1/2 skeins so make sure to purchase 2. I bought it online at Walmart.com for $3.84 a piece at time of post.</li>
<li>Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo called Soft Navy. This is a solid color and the skein was 14 oz (744 yards). I used around half of it. Purchased at Walmart.com for $6.09 at time of post. </li>
</ul>
</ul>
<div>
To make the wreath, you will need pom pom makers like the ones I use in the video. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Using the Americana yarn, make 24-27 big pom poms.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkE6k1Ts6jwKzoHiXToptLgWdQg9h8LumnoUDpxvDuWka7QZPdo2c7RU54CztPwHi0SfZTkqcT3u70PrWL5uA5Mp96EHOllXKIGXrrY4sJqUip_JFLtvcQ85ga9fvveg7w06jpTjioLSo/s1600/Big+Pom+Poms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1323" data-original-width="1600" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkE6k1Ts6jwKzoHiXToptLgWdQg9h8LumnoUDpxvDuWka7QZPdo2c7RU54CztPwHi0SfZTkqcT3u70PrWL5uA5Mp96EHOllXKIGXrrY4sJqUip_JFLtvcQ85ga9fvveg7w06jpTjioLSo/s320/Big+Pom+Poms.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Using the Soft Navy make 75-80 smaller pom poms</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP8zB0_iOaClPVeul8z2bVvx396co7z744YiYbf-KTqGqLczs-I2qcEvy8o5sFU7_pSWJrpniAzRY1j_TBBwxu1-jSIu2ZIZJFV_dR3_HjPgNWt7fIUXLqvFc19nHhyyw_KU9oEMCuknA/s1600/Small+Pom+Poms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="894" data-original-width="1416" height="202" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP8zB0_iOaClPVeul8z2bVvx396co7z744YiYbf-KTqGqLczs-I2qcEvy8o5sFU7_pSWJrpniAzRY1j_TBBwxu1-jSIu2ZIZJFV_dR3_HjPgNWt7fIUXLqvFc19nHhyyw_KU9oEMCuknA/s320/Small+Pom+Poms.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You will attach them to the wreath by flipping the wreath ring upside down and tying them to it like I did in the video. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELN5sMJy7-kIx5tZOSWuDlyFTBMg2l2Rgl33Ho_aVcy4GgX22DdJlrqKxNPXkVQn6g216O1y1WaRsWR24iNnsyqnfXCZpDGvs1YuVF8OU4CUdV9dHvXOQ6lVyMryZSwxA8SKYp7grPzM/s1600/DSCF7664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELN5sMJy7-kIx5tZOSWuDlyFTBMg2l2Rgl33Ho_aVcy4GgX22DdJlrqKxNPXkVQn6g216O1y1WaRsWR24iNnsyqnfXCZpDGvs1YuVF8OU4CUdV9dHvXOQ6lVyMryZSwxA8SKYp7grPzM/s320/DSCF7664.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
Work your way around the wreath until you get the fullest you want. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2a9UiT69BZqHv-i_5lvNVq9y-T2FhsRQxa13fV4ukpcU9wHwpqgsSz65VmLHzoaVRNBBf293_kzdkMMlcdW5hBdXnb35R21D2dhbT4ohvnx4ODJtrqb9skJcVCqL4I49xQqOP8Y3VsrQ/s1600/DSCF7662.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2a9UiT69BZqHv-i_5lvNVq9y-T2FhsRQxa13fV4ukpcU9wHwpqgsSz65VmLHzoaVRNBBf293_kzdkMMlcdW5hBdXnb35R21D2dhbT4ohvnx4ODJtrqb9skJcVCqL4I49xQqOP8Y3VsrQ/s320/DSCF7662.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is when you flip it back the right way.<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Once the pom poms are all attached, use the Christmas hooks, or thin pieces of wire, to wrap the tops of the flags and attach to the wreath ring. Do the same with the bottoms of the flags.<br />
<br />
Of course you can choose to try to glue them on (with clear glue or a hot glue gun) however doing it this way will allow you to change out design.<br />
<br />
Finally, add a cord, or something similar, to the back to use to hang the wreath.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
**This is designed for milder winter weather.**</div>
<br />
What you will need:<br />
<ul>
<li>Worsted Weight Yarn (4) in a dark red. (I believe mine was a Red Heart Super Saver yarn but unsure of exact color since I don't have the label anymore.)</li>
<li>Adjustable Hat Loom from Knitting Board (KB)</li>
<li>Looming Tool</li>
<li>Row Counter </li>
<li>Crochet Hook</li>
<li>Stitch Markers</li>
<li>A tiny rubber band or another item to help you know when you have reached the beginning again. I placed a tiny blue rubber band on a section of the loom before attaching together to help me know when I was at the start again. <a name='more'></a></li>
</ul>
<div>
Pattern:</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li> Assembly loom in the "large" format (This gives a slightly looser fit depending on your head size so you may want to adjust down if you have a small head. My head circumference is around 22 in.)</li>
<li>E-wrap cast on all pegs </li>
<li>K1 P1 using "U Knit" for the Knit part Repeat 6 times</li>
<li>P1K1 again using "U Knit" for Knit part repeat 3 times</li>
<li>Purl</li>
<li>Chunky Braid Stitch (Note: Watch your tension as you work around otherwise it will be hard to knit over as you work the last time around. Work the last time around one peg at a time to help with tension.) Click <a href="https://youtu.be/03DRkKusMAI" target="_blank">here </a>for video on this stitch. </li>
<li>Purl</li>
<li>Repeat: Chunky Braid Stitch then Purl row 4 times</li>
<li>K1 P1 (U Knit for K again) repeat 10 times</li>
<li>Purl</li>
<li>Repeat: Chunky Braid Stitch then Purl row 3 times</li>
<li>E-wrap knit 12 rows</li>
<li>Gathered Bind Off. Use a crochet hook to help close up hole if need be. Be careful with how tight you pull! </li>
</ol>
<div>
Hope you like it!! </div>

The first day of my temperature blanket project! I promise I won't post every day about it, more like at the end of each month. 😁<br />
<br />
For those that don't know what a temperature blanket is, it involves assigning yarn to specific temperature ranges and knitting (or crocheting) a row each day that corresponds to that temperature. Some choose to pick the highest temperature or lowest, others a set time each day. Some do two rows, one for highest, one for lowest. I decided on recording the temperature at noon every day.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
What I love is there is no right or wrong way to make one. You can modify it easily. I will be crocheting mine. I decided on a white border at the top and will do a white border at the end along with one all the way around the blanket once done. I also want to do a white row after each month.<br />
Below is the color chart I decided on:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJMhyphenhyphengL3f5tvmgOEdBXrUQPsIzw1lhL29ZdaJ4ytebqmjJT052JSqh0BkwqPxzYckM6NXCBb-iBUqDCtIdx3D6-pX2k624bU5ItQjBQT2Jjsy-sGhAW9WCzCppUMbDOW0MmmPT4Z_sQo/s1600/Temperature+Blanket+Chart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1167" data-original-width="1000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJMhyphenhyphengL3f5tvmgOEdBXrUQPsIzw1lhL29ZdaJ4ytebqmjJT052JSqh0BkwqPxzYckM6NXCBb-iBUqDCtIdx3D6-pX2k624bU5ItQjBQT2Jjsy-sGhAW9WCzCppUMbDOW0MmmPT4Z_sQo/s640/Temperature+Blanket+Chart.jpg" width="547" /></a></div>
<br />
Before today, I used an "I", or 5.50 MM, Boye crochet hook to make 340 chains in white yarn in hopes it will work for my queen size bed. Then, I continued using that hook to do a double crochet row (still in white) for my "border". I'm excited to see how it progresses and which color will repeat the most.<br />
<br />
Day One Color is Dark Purple since it was 31 F. My daughter was hoping for Below 20 so it could start in the same color as our cat. Kids!! I switched hook size to a size "E", or 3.50 MM, and will be doing a single crochet row for each day. I am simply cutting and tying the new yarn at each change. I will weave the ends in when completed. If I did my math right, or at least close, I will end up with around a 7 foot long blanket which definitely will work for my bed.<br />
<br />
I hope you decide to try this kind of blanket in the future either in Knit, Loom Knit or Crochet. Have a great day everyone!!<br />

<br />
I took a break towards the end of last year with making videos. I had a lot on my mind regarding family and life in general. (I might talk about some of this on my other, more personal, blog during the year: <a href="https://throughupsanddowns.blogspot.com/">Through Ups and Downs</a>).<br />
<br />
I wanted to share goals I have for Simply Intertwined, some of which I might need your help with to achieve. Here they are:<br />
<ol>
<li>Upload a minimum of 52 videos this year. There will be new looming and other craft videos along with some possible simple, <i>very </i>simple crochet videos since I am still learning. Also videos answering common questions I see asked in looming groups. I am not sure if I will get a video up every week depending on how long certain projects take to film/edit but by the end of the year I will have 52 videos for you guys to learn from and get crafty with.<a name='more'></a></li>
<li>I have had a goal of reaching 20,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel for a couple years and hopefully by the end of this year I will finally reach it! Please be sure to tell your fellow crafters about me! (Did you know at 100,000 YouTube gives you a plaque? Someday.... 😁 )</li>
<li>Finally, to make sure I am responding with 24-48hrs to any questions or comments on my YouTube channel and Facebook. Sometimes I don't know the answer and it's better to let you know right away so you can find another source. </li>
</ol>
<div>
I hope this year will be a great! What goals do you have related to your crafts? </div>
<div>

I decided to make this simple "countdown" by using blocks (which was in a package of 9) and a small tin from the Dollar Tree. My daughter helped me as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgitcGYyUgclMbLlAf6Dy22ZuaJEL0T_-1S1BGWAzNl31bOp1t6LCCU2wom4_cZ4xm9tJEsGxd4Tft2Ea_WoUydcMYL181Cg_HWphYMJvet7R6ggYE_Dt9Dhvu6ZnUPzaK9hM-aCmqHlsY/s1600/DSCF6389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgitcGYyUgclMbLlAf6Dy22ZuaJEL0T_-1S1BGWAzNl31bOp1t6LCCU2wom4_cZ4xm9tJEsGxd4Tft2Ea_WoUydcMYL181Cg_HWphYMJvet7R6ggYE_Dt9Dhvu6ZnUPzaK9hM-aCmqHlsY/s320/DSCF6389.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgahx8LG0RXqbp1F9fA-WDsv3K3H1jVml7DH55WOVw8fRTrm2PveTosnlTP0CVqnsNtAdao6xP9V5kmJ5SY38CkkzfbjlG-ztr-LLM92REFc0B9rrqBqjGq9Ahkkdux3fa0Km6TmKf2_8o/s1600/DSCF6386.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgahx8LG0RXqbp1F9fA-WDsv3K3H1jVml7DH55WOVw8fRTrm2PveTosnlTP0CVqnsNtAdao6xP9V5kmJ5SY38CkkzfbjlG-ztr-LLM92REFc0B9rrqBqjGq9Ahkkdux3fa0Km6TmKf2_8o/s320/DSCF6386.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgahx8LG0RXqbp1F9fA-WDsv3K3H1jVml7DH55WOVw8fRTrm2PveTosnlTP0CVqnsNtAdao6xP9V5kmJ5SY38CkkzfbjlG-ztr-LLM92REFc0B9rrqBqjGq9Ahkkdux3fa0Km6TmKf2_8o/s1600/DSCF6386.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I went through the paint I had on hand to paint three of the blocks. One to be red and two to be green with white for the numbers. The paint is around $0.50 each I believe at Walmart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkrl8F59VNQekrPZAqZIhow6dXja5Ygv-IZEH66Qlj-pxRD2xxFhyphenhyphenxfF9a3ni8TxbR3ayljjosLzGWGo6EHOnH4NN2Wcbdh6y8BrdZCObAZQ-puMgxt4_A4L3UxoxJC8Zr_eGwmssHR1Y/s1600/DSCF6387.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkrl8F59VNQekrPZAqZIhow6dXja5Ygv-IZEH66Qlj-pxRD2xxFhyphenhyphenxfF9a3ni8TxbR3ayljjosLzGWGo6EHOnH4NN2Wcbdh6y8BrdZCObAZQ-puMgxt4_A4L3UxoxJC8Zr_eGwmssHR1Y/s320/DSCF6387.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQlsOc-Tx8uG4yHNRo5KSR4rB20I5x6HrjsJDWfjndERCEGwUh6SL3LUkZ0eXelqo5-AbJTqPNweut9Gg3CammWI7Dt9tbV8kwYCmJDh5500eK4nSacr8tUH-Mf52lZu1IC9ihlKiJK88/s1600/DSCF6379.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQlsOc-Tx8uG4yHNRo5KSR4rB20I5x6HrjsJDWfjndERCEGwUh6SL3LUkZ0eXelqo5-AbJTqPNweut9Gg3CammWI7Dt9tbV8kwYCmJDh5500eK4nSacr8tUH-Mf52lZu1IC9ihlKiJK88/s320/DSCF6379.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I painted more coats if needed to make sure the numbers/letters already on the blocks wouldn't be seen. I painted the numbers on later using the end of a sucker stick and sorta making 'dots' but a marker or finer paintbrush would work. You could even find numbered stickers. After they dried, I coated them with clear top coat nail polish to give them a little shine. (The nail polish was from the Dollar Tree as well but I had it on hand.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifJFr2mLfDsCgwKlT-2KJ3nHPWzzX8y7ir5a_er7mRmvL7rNjI_2DldiQL1DWthFHybCmu4kVAvI0FWs9LEK8z2vgEGEZxe0HWc8i_yfCwjQXShyphenhyphenjzxu6A1yh5GLwr9yWxcJC8M97dd4o/s1600/DSCF6390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifJFr2mLfDsCgwKlT-2KJ3nHPWzzX8y7ir5a_er7mRmvL7rNjI_2DldiQL1DWthFHybCmu4kVAvI0FWs9LEK8z2vgEGEZxe0HWc8i_yfCwjQXShyphenhyphenjzxu6A1yh5GLwr9yWxcJC8M97dd4o/s320/DSCF6390.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then on the inside of the tin I printed off a label and used gold duct tape to put it in place along with covering the label in clear wide tape. The red block has the numbers 1,2 and 3 for the start of counting down. Most likely my daughter will start counting down from 30 days next year. (KIDS!) Then the two green blocks had numbers 0-9 on them with one block having numbers 0-5 and the other 6-9. I couldn't figure out how to do this with just two blocks--my brain was on strike.<br />
<br />
The end results isn't perfect but cute and serves its purpose. There was enough room to put the two green blocks in a row. When we are done counting down we just close the tin until next year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge43-HGcebyHETaPS4460fD-LGcFHmvsx4OF93k2oefsTRrwwL789yNkl1bSi9YEO_bPUDkNrMDPK374AKSyW4CMy7codi1N2dIDX2JBKwLeHyLTcFV5GqcSm5mDq9NCNFr3oAjbbQx_0/s1600/DSCF6398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge43-HGcebyHETaPS4460fD-LGcFHmvsx4OF93k2oefsTRrwwL789yNkl1bSi9YEO_bPUDkNrMDPK374AKSyW4CMy7codi1N2dIDX2JBKwLeHyLTcFV5GqcSm5mDq9NCNFr3oAjbbQx_0/s400/DSCF6398.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This would make a cute gift for a child whose old enough not to put the blocks in their mouths. It's a simple, cheap project depending on what you have on hand.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305457318291946287.post-78097650908958246362017-07-22T23:33:00.001-04:002017-07-22T23:33:45.280-04:00Baby Be Mine Newborn Baby Hat<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

You Will Need:<br />
<ul>
<li>Sock Loom 2 (or All In One Loom)</li>
<li>Crochet Hook</li>
<li>Looming Tool</li>
<li>Cotton Yarn- <i>I used Peaches & Cream: Rouge Red (I picked up a small skein at a thrift store for 0.99 so I am unsure if that particular yarn is still available.)<a name='more'></a></i></li>
</ul>
Directions:<br />
<ul>
<li>Using one strand of cotton yarn Ewrap cast on 17 pegs on the Sock Loom 2 </li>
<li>Complete <u>60 rows</u> of U Knit stitch. <i>Remember to be careful with your tension otherwise it will be harder to knit over the next row. </i></li>
<li>Crochet/Chain Cast off with two chains in between.</li>
<li>Measurements: 4.5 inches by just under 4.5 inches.</li>
<li><i>You may need to block the coaster afterwards or place between two hard objects to help with curling. I liked the idea of there being different looks to the coaster on each side therefore I didn't do this in garter stitch that does help with curling.</i></li><li><i><br /></i></li>

Using the red Knifty Knitter circle loom (31 pegs), cotton yarn and dish scrubby yarn:<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<ul>
<li>Drawstring Cast On with both yarn</li>
<li>1 row of E-wrap knit</li>
<li>1 row of Purl </li>
<li>10 rows of Rib Stitch</li>
<li>Close off the drawstring cast on using a crochet hook. (Go to the 11:14 minute mark in video to see.) </li>
<li>2 rows of Chunky Braid Stitch</li>
<li>3 rows of Double Stitch</li>
<li>3 rows of E-wrap Knit</li>
<li>Gathered Bind Off </li>
<li>Make sure to tie some yarn in the middle to help join the centers together and have the scrubby as one. (You can watch from the 26 minute mark of the video to see what I mean to finish off this scrubby.)</li>

I purchased the red glass vase at my local Salvation Army Thrift Store a few weeks ago knowing I would find a use for it. Red is my favorite color. Recently, I purchased a new desk and decided this vase was to be included in the desktop decor. I purchased three bags of glass stones in the craft section of the Dollar Tree. Then I purchased the flowers at Walmart, with the help of a fellow customer's opinion.<br />
<a name='more'></a>First, I place a few stones at the base of the vase. Then I pulled apart the carnations which came in a small bunch into separate pieces with stems. The Hydrangea flower was only one big flower but I had to cut the stem down to size for the vase.<br />
<br />
Second step was I placed the Hydrangea slightly toward the front of the vase knowing the vase was going to be to the back of my desk. I didn't care what the back of the vase looked like, I was focused on what I would see when sitting down. I poured more of the glass stones in around the stem, still keeping the flower mainly to the front. (To make it easier I transferred them out of their bags into a big plastic measuring cup.)<br />
<br />
Third, I then placed the carnation around the bottom to fill in the empty space between the Hydrangea and the vase. Again, I didn't worry about the back. If I planned on having the vase in a different location I would have continued the carnations around the whole vase and kept the Hydrangea in the middle more.<br />
<br />
Very simple project. And the total spent was around $12.00. <br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJoi-5gas70MLl89wPXA0rChssWVjCczrn3vahdbkxs46t1I22VGRDnqbrY9ol7GzXwqsihobZHyVkNeFkqe6MEDABSUwPf4ekL3MZnsTh9y5gxkB0UmwHAs-2kdUN1fIaI0Xz-SKLT8/s1600/DSCF4259.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJoi-5gas70MLl89wPXA0rChssWVjCczrn3vahdbkxs46t1I22VGRDnqbrY9ol7GzXwqsihobZHyVkNeFkqe6MEDABSUwPf4ekL3MZnsTh9y5gxkB0UmwHAs-2kdUN1fIaI0Xz-SKLT8/s200/DSCF4259.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
You either love them or hate them.<br />
Swatches.<br />
What is the importance of taking the time to make one? Why can't I just do the project?<br />
<br />
Swatches are important for a few reasons, especially to new loomers.<br />
<ol>
<li>With swatches you can determine the best yarn thickness for the loom you want to use. For example, by doing a swatch on a smaller gauge loom, like the All In One, with a bulky type yarn you will find out that you may not want to use a bulky yarn--that the project works up harder and more tight. Or you may simply need to change the stitch you use with the yarn. The same goes with a thinner yarn on a bigger gauge loom. <a name='more'></a></li>
<li>Swatches also provide an opportunity to <i>practice </i>a stitch before beginning a big project. They help you to get comfortable with a new stitch or technique before incorporating it into a bigger project. </li>
<li>If you are attempting to design a specific letter or shape, swatches help you to figure out how many pegs and rows you will need to complete it without having to figure out in the middle of a project and risk having to then frog it if it doesn't come out right. </li>
<li>Swatches can be a great reference to what stitches look like. You can tag each swatch with notes like the loom used, the yarn, the amount of pegs, etc. This might come in handy later on when designing an item.</li>
</ol>
<div>
I'm sure there are other benefits to taking the time to make a swatch. If you know of any please share below. </div>

She has watched my videos for quite some time now and has even inspired a few. We both believe in the idea of "pay it forward". For her, it was paying it forward to me for the videos I make available to fellow loomers. I don't always get to purchase new items for my crafts so it warmed my heart that she thought of me. I was quite surprised at what I received! <br />

This small loom has peaked my interest to use for making some scarves or other small projects. But, the gift I received that has me the most excited is the following: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr0zxhQS5kZMagdjuc5CE1ZJO4iKJwdT_MBgul5SF-RmbiTAAxgKA6CSlYspJ__F4XtBGsQ14g5AyKocmnxxxqPaqiEb7l9kB3hozinLMKYucP0_XBCPNZiH-5lN5-MP30Q4ErE9EfhIQ/s1600/DSCF4067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr0zxhQS5kZMagdjuc5CE1ZJO4iKJwdT_MBgul5SF-RmbiTAAxgKA6CSlYspJ__F4XtBGsQ14g5AyKocmnxxxqPaqiEb7l9kB3hozinLMKYucP0_XBCPNZiH-5lN5-MP30Q4ErE9EfhIQ/s320/DSCF4067.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
The Adjustable Hat Loom by Knitting Board. This is a loom you piece together in different sizes depending on the size you need. I will, of course, be doing a video about this loom as I get more of a chance to play around with and get comfortable with it. I'm excited and grateful for such a wonderful surprise gift. I will be paying it forward somehow in the future. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope this inspires you to do something kind for others and to "pay it forward" for any kindness you have received. Remember, kindness does not have a dollar amount attached to it so don't think you have to spend money to "pay it forward." Little gestures have just as much impact! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Have a great day everyone!! </div>

I haven't posted a thrifty find in a while. This one comes courtesy of my daughter's school. On Mondays and Thursdays they have a book cart where kids can purchase books for $0.25 a piece or they can trade in a book from home for a "new" book. It's a great program to raise awareness of reading and provide the school with some extra funds most likely geared at reading as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Besides books for children, they have a section of books adults can purchase for $0.50 a piece. I found a book recently that caught my eye. </div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is designed as a way to record those memorable, crazy things kids say! Inside, there are spaces to place a photo of your child and plenty of pages to track quotes for quite a long time, at least to me. </div>

Above is a sample of a page. The pages come in different colors and different designs but each contains a spot to record who, when, age, and where of each entry along with enough space to add the quote. There is roughly 144 pages. I already have an entry ready to go! </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I researched this on Amazon it retailed for between $13-$14 so definitely a great thrifty find! What I like about it is if you don't fill it up when your child is young you could easily pass it on to them to fill in about their kids when they are older. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Of course, finding this makes me wonder what one of your favorite quotes of your child is? Share below! </div>

<i>My daughter decided on what button I would put on and I know it is a little big. She ended up taking this to use as a collar for one of her smaller stuffed animals. <div style="text-align: center;">
My daughter tried it and decided to name it. Having her a part of the recipe, or recipe naming process, is always fun! (If she had her way <i>more </i>sugar would have been used in the recipe.)</div>
<br />
<u><i>Ingredients</i></u>:<br />
<ul>
<li>Roughly 3 pounds of Red Delicious Apples</li>
<li>1 tablespoon of lemon juice</li>
<li>1 1/2 cups of water</li>
<li>1 tablespoon of cinnamon</li>
<li>1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg</li>
<li>1/8 teaspoon of ginger</li>
<li>2 tablespoon of sugar </li>
<li><i>Optional</i>: add a 1 cup of raisins once done and top with chopped walnuts as seen in picture above.</li>
</ul>
<div>
<b><i><u>Directions</u></i></b>: </div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Combine dry ingredients in small bowl.</li>
<li>Pour water and lemon juice in slow cooker, stir</li>
<li>Peeled, core, and cut up apples then place in slow cooker, stir</li>
<li>Sprinkle dry ingredients over apples and <i>gently</i> stir</li>
<li>Cook on high for 3 hours, gently stirring occasionally. </li>
<li>Switch to low for another 1 hour</li>
<li>Carefully use a potato masher, or other device, to break up the apples to desire consistency. It will be very hot. I choose to keep it "chunky" by not mashing as much. </li>
<li><i>Optional</i>: Once done, add in raisins and top with walnuts and sprinkle extra sugar if needed. </li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Enjoy! </i></b></div>

<li>Once heated, add meat and dry ingredients</li>
<li>When meat is almost all the way cooked add the veggies and garlic. DO NOT ADD BEEF BROTH YET</li>
<li>Cook veggies to desired constancy (I like a little crunch still left on mine.)</li>
<li>Add the beef broth, cover and simmer for 10 minutes</li>
<li>Uncover and continue simmering for 5 minutes. </li>
<li>Remove from heat.</li>
<li>Assemble your hoagie roll with your choice of cheese and any dressing you choose. Add mixture and enjoy!</li>

Cooler weather means yarn will be my friend, not my enemy, as I settle in for nights in my home to create new, hopefully simple, projects over the next few months. I know I have apologized for the lack of patterns and videos over the summer but honestly, I try not to "force" the creativity out, instead allowing it to flow naturally.<br />
<br />
This summer brought about changes as my daughter and I moved to a new place. With more room compared to where we had lived, I can already sense projects wanting to emerge and, now that all my yarn is in one location along with my looms and other tools of the trade, I will be able to really sink my teeth into making Simply Intertwined blossom when my daughter starts school soon.<br />

I have found a couple projects that need finishing since we moved. I need to get my butt in gear! I might be tweaking my blog a little, as you might have noticed with the new header, and fixing any errors as well. If you have a project you want me to try create please contact me through the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/SimplyIntertwinedEst.2011" target="_blank">Simply Intertwined Facebook Page</a> and I will add it to my list. Also, if you have asked me about something before please remind me to I can make sure it was put on my "to do" list. <div>

I enjoy my job as a teacher on Youtube and the interactions I have had with everyone. I will do my best to continue doing what I love as I hope you continue to watch. Now excuse me while I go have a serious conversation with my yarn to make sure it behaves this fall. </div>
